Well all my hives are still alive, our weather has been very mild for February, today I even got to see my bees outside since it warmed up enough for them to go on pooping runs outside their hives. This is a very different story from last year with my top bar hives. This year I am seeing a lot of little yellow spots all over the bee yard, last year this wasn't the case, this means they are able to get out to poop and back inside before it gets to cold. The hives also seem to be a lot drier then last year, defiantly an improvement using a vertical hive over horizontal.

Do you still have TBH?

No, I concluded based on the results I got from my tbh that the tbh comb arrangement is the worst possible way to organize a hive for ventilation and winter movement, if you could run the comb down the length of the hive they would work much better increasing yields and viability. A natural nest structure will look like this with comb running the longest dimension of the hive cavity. I'm using a vertical arrangement now called a warre hive, so far all my colonies are still alive, but I won't count my chickens before they hatch and save my conclusions until after spring inspections.
